  • Force

    The heart of SmartBroom is a set of highly accurate high-speed force sensors that measure the downward force applied to the ice while sweeping.  The data is presented as a 'push' force (the maximum within each stroke) and a 'pull' force (the minimum within each stroke).

  • Frequency

    SmartBroom monitors your frequency, or stroke rate, in strokes/second. The more often the brush-head passes in the path of the stone, the more impact the sweeper can have on the stone

  • Power

    SmartBroom combines all the sweeping variables (push-force, pull-force, frequency) into one result, the SPI (Sweeping Performance Index). The SPI is the only standard for sweeping performance, and the only way to truly gauge overall sweeping effectiveness.

World Curling certification

SmartBroom 3 is a world curling certified sweeping device, approved for use in competition.

To be compliant, you must install a competition sleeve, which has a valid product code on the bottom of the sewn-in label.

Update: World Curling has changed the specification for competition foam as of June 20, 2025. The SmartBroom foam currently shipping falls outside the updated specifications, and will not be allowed in competitive play. Handle options

All of our handles are 100% carbon fibre for incredible strength, stiffness, and lightness.

We have two handle size options:

  • 28.5mm (1 ⅛") diameter
  • 25mm (1") diameter

Depending on the size of your hands, the thinner or thicker handle may be best for you.

The top portion of the handle comes in two colour options. A solid blue, or an inclusive rainbow pride flag.

All BasicBrooms and SmartBrooms are compatible with any of our Curling Tools handles.
