The SmartBeam app is completely free. Whether you're measuring speed from a single beam, or splits and speeds from multiple beams, we don't up-charge you for each user. When you start thinking about a team (or more) using a timer system, these savings really add up.

Colour Coordinated

Thoughtful Design

The beam system connects to your phone over Bluetooth Low-Energy, which comfortably maintains connection across the length of an entire sheet.

The SmartBeam app is the centre of the system. A live sheet displays the current beam setup and the system state.

Tap on the sheet to assign a beam's location, and build exactly the setup you need quickly and easily.

Split times and rock speeds populate automatically based on the setup you define, and update live as the rock progresses.

  • With SmartBeam, you don't need to worry about accidental trips. The system intelligently ignores any beam-breaks from modules that are not next in the sequence of the rock.

  • SmartBeam maintains a history of every measured time and speed. You can easily filter by date, and export all measurements in CSV format.

  • After initial setup, the SmartBeam app remembers your beams, and will always automatically connect when they are powered on.

Flexible and Powerful

Each SmartBeam can measure rock speed on its own, and multiple beams can be combined to measure split times. A setup can be configured with beams at the back-line, tee-line, hog-line, and between the hogs.

A button in the app controls throwing direction, so you can go up and down the sheet without reconfiguring your setup.

Arming and using the system is intuitive and extremely powerful. SmartBeam has three arming control modes - Manual, Automatic, and First-Beam Control.

    Take full control, and arm the system with a tap of a button in the app.

  • Automatic Arming

    The system will re-arm automatically after timing is complete. In the app, a delay can be configured so it's just right for you.

  • First-Beam Control

    Perfect for solo-practice sessions, the system will arm when you break the first beam by sliding back to throw your next rock.

Each SmartBeam module has bright LED indication for system state, so you always know when they're ready to time.

The top of each beam also has a dedicated beam-state LED, making aiming and setup a breeze.

What's Included?

Each SmartBeam module is ready-to-use out of the box, and includes:

  • SmartBeam sensor unit
  • Retro-reflector

USB type-C cable and charger are not included.

Measurement Details

SmartBeam captures rock speeds and split times.

Rock Speeds

Speeds are calculated by a single sensor measuring the duration of time its beam is broken by your rock.

For a rock speed to be valid, the leading edge of the rock must break the beam first, and the trailing edge of the rock must be clear so the beam can re-establish behind it. If the thrower's broom or other body parts are in the way of the beam, an inaccurate speed will be reported. For this reason, the best place to capture releases speeds is *beyond* the hogline, where the rock is fully clear of the thrower.

Split Times

Split times are calculated between two sensors. SmartBeams placed on sheet lines will automatically generate splits in the app. These splits include:

  • Back to tee
  • Back to hog
  • Tee to hog
  • Hog to hog

Time is measured between the leading edge of the rock breaking the first beam, to the leading edge of the rock breaking the second beam.

Battery and Charging

SmartBeam modules integrate a high capacity lithium polymer battery, and charge over standard USB-C.

On a full charge, each SmartBeam module will run for approximately 10 hours of continuous use

Size & Weight

Each SmartBeam unit is made of a single sensor module and a reflector. For storage and transport the reflector magnetically attaches to the sensor, acting as a cover.

In its storage and transport configuration, one SmartBeam measures approximately 55x65x105 mm and weighs approximately 190g.
