Important Update: Changes to World Curling Equipment Regulations for 2025-2026
Share
Today, World Curling has announced a sweeping equipment regulation change that will significantly impact the sport for the upcoming 2025-2026 curling season.
The target of these changes is the removable foams used in brooms like SmartBroom. Going forward, these foams will be subject to a more stringent compression ratio requirement. This change aims to ensure fair play and consistency in broom performance across the sport.
As a result of this new regulation, our revolutionary blue foam—introduced with the SmartBroom 3 last year—now falls outside the updated compliance parameters. While this presents a challenge, it also offers us an exciting opportunity to innovate once again.
World Curling has provided manufacturers the opportunity to submit new foam materials for certification. We at Curling Tools are fully engaged in this process. Our best engineering minds have already begun the task of developing a new, more compressible foam that will meet the updated specifications. Rest assured, this new foam will maintain the performance excellence you’ve come to expect from us.
And yes, it will still be blue.
Additionally, we would like to thank World Curling for inviting and hosting the manufacturers at the Sweep Testing summit using the facilities in Morris, Manitoba. Special thanks to Chris and Lorne Hamblin for their wonderful hospitality.
We are committed to keeping our community informed during this period of transition. Stay tuned for more updates as we progress through development and certification of our new foam.
