Introducing SmartBeam – Laser timing, perfected

Kitchener ON, March 11, 2026 — Today, Curling Tools is announcing its next breakthrough product, SmartBeam. SmartBeam is a laser split-timing and rock speed measurement system that is perfect for curlers at all levels. 

Designed to be the most intuitive and best value rock timing system in curling, SmartBeam brings together simple hardware, powerful software, and thoughtful design in one complete package. Each beam includes a sensor module with LED indication and a retroreflector that magnetically attaches as a cover for storage and transport. A single beam can be placed anywhere on the sheet to capture instantaneous rock speed, while two or more beams can be used together to measure split times.

SmartBeam is built to be fast to set up and easy to use. The system connects over Bluetooth Low Energy, maintains connection across the full length of a sheet, and is controlled through the SmartBeam app. The app displays beam placement, system state, and live timing results. 

The SmartBeam app is completely free, and supports both iOS and Android.
